Auto Car Hauling Transport Tips
Here are some tips to help ensure that your transaction goes as smoothly as possible.
- Get knowledgeable about the car hauling / auto transport business. Start with our Auto Transport Basics and our Car Transport FAQ page.
- If you are importing or exporting a vehicle and you've never done so before, there's a fair amount of information you need to be aware of. See our International Auto Transport page for a discussion and links to more information.
- Get multiple estimates. GoAutoTransport can get you multiple FREE estimates from USA auto transport companies and for international auto transport companies.
- Consider the options available with the car transport company, including open carrier and enclosed vehicle transport. Additional information on common car hauling options is available on our Auto Transport Types page.
- If you are shipping an antique, classic, exotic or other specialty vehicle, give every consideration to paying the additional cost to ship your vehicle in an enclosed container. It can also pay to hire an auto transporter who specializes in taking care of these valuable vehicles. See our Special Vehicle Transport page for more information.
- Check into both the insurance offered by the car transport and with your insurance agent to find out about coverage, deductibles, limitations and exclusions. See our Car Transport Insurance page for more information.
- Car hauling services are competitive, but don't choose an auto transporter based on price alone. You'll find helpful pointers for making a decision on our Selecting a Car Transport Company page.
- Schedule as far in advance as you can, preferably at least 4 weeks before you need to have your car transported.
- Don't be late for your appointment when it comes to leaving the vehicle with the shipper or when taking delivery. If you're meeting in a neutral location because access problems prohibit door-to-door service, make sure you understand where the driver wants to meet you.
