Auto Car Hauling Transport Tips

Here are some tips to help ensure that your transaction goes as smoothly as possible.

  • If you will not be available at the time your car is picked up or at the time it is delivered, select a representative whom you would trust to make decisions on your behalf, perhaps a family member, friend or neighbor.
  • Plan to have your car serviced and washed ahead of time. If you are importing a vehicle, have the undercarriage washed too. Detailed information is provided on our Car Transport Preparation page.
  • Prepare a list of any operational problems or unusual steps needed in order to start, stop, or drive your vehicle and make sure these are relayed to the driver of the car hauling company.
  • Plan to inspect the roof, undercarriage and under both back and front bumpers carefully. It's a good idea to do this both before and after the vehicle is transported. Have a working camera available.
  • Whenever possible, arrange to accept delivery of your vehicle during daylight hours. This will help you see damages and take clearer pictures of them. For details on accepting delivery, see our Auto Transport Pickup page.
  • In the unlikely even that your vehicle is damaged during the shipping process, note the damage on the inspection report, have the driver sign and the contact the car transport service to work with them in getting your damages resolved. You'll still need to pay any amount owed for hauling your car and you will need to file a claim with the car transport service within two weeks of delivery – the sooner the better.
  • Don't make repairs until the car transport company authorizes them. If you are filing a claim with your auto insurer, allow your insurance carrier to inspect the vehicle before you make any repairs.
  • We hope these car transport tips and the information provided on our site help you to have a very successful and stress free auto transport experience!
